Ojai Dojo Guest House Opens - Discounts for Apperceive and Digital Dojo Events

Our good friend and partner Alicia Coral has opened a bed and breakfast style guest house next door to the Apperceive offices and the Ojai Digital Dojo training center (... where media production and distribution are martial arts).
Alicia has done some fine work enhancing the two private suites, including a new luxury bath and tub, beautiful new glass doors to enhance privacy and that special quiet that some enjoy while listening to the birds, wind chimes and water fountains. Even a new ramp for greater accessibility.
The guest house has a variety of room configurations, but the key offering is a 3 bedroom suite that is perfect for a small group of 3-6 people who want to stay overnight or over the weekend for a learning event or training session at the Digital Dojo.
Combine that with a fun event like the Ojai Film Festival or some horse back riding in the Ventura River Nature Preserve or hiking one of our many prized trails in the Los Padres National Forrest.
Apperceive and Dojo event participants qualify for a discount rate at the guest house and we will be putting together some great training and lodging combination packages. Keep an eye on this blog and site for more information about these events and packages. More details soon. Feel free to suggest topics and dates. What would you like to see in the way of Ojai getaway + training.
For more details about facilities, reservations and pricing, check out the Ojai Dojo Guest House. Mention this blog post or the code 'apperceive' for a 10% discount on posted prices.
Turning Lemons in to Lemonade

I recently had my first bad experience with freelancing gigs I've responded to on Craigslist. I've started a series on what has and will transpire with one of these jobs.
This is a not a pretty story, but may be of interest to others and will also provide documentation as we pursue litigation.
For the full story about how we got ripped off by Rian Edwards of Dos Cabezas and what we are doing about it. The fist step begins with these articles.

Alert! Rian Edwards of Dos Cabezas Writes Bad Checks
Getting Screwed on Craigslist is not the same as Getting Laid on Criaigslist
Many of my Drupal projects have been interesting gigs with good clients. Recently, however, one turned out to be a lemon. This is the first in a series of posts that tells the story of how I turned the lemon into lemonade. Before we dive in, please let me share a short public service announcement that tells it like it is:
This is a shout out to warn local web designers and developers that Rian Edwards writes bad checks that bounce due to insufficient funds. He claims that he is a partner in the company Dos Cabezas and that he is trying to sell a fansite 'tempate' to a respected new media company, who, in turn, is working with a major television show as a pilot for the project .
We're joining forces with Milkweed Media Design
![]()
We're delighted to announce that we are partnering with our good friend Jen Simmons and her Milkwood Media Design design business. Jen is located in Brooklyn, NY and we have been working together on Wordpress and Drupal sites for the past several years. We've decided to make it formal and combine forces under the Milkwood Media Design flag.
Look for more of my presence on the MWMD site; I'm hoping to start contributing content to the site about some of the core issues that many of our clients face. This includes upgrading existing Drupal sites, estimating project costs, determining needs and working with contractors. Jen will be adding to the conversation around project management and site design. Read more »
